Little India, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

by Bex

After our lovely morning with Bella, Clare and Emmi in KL, we took Clare's advice on where to head to search for Indian outfits for an upcoming family wedding, Brickfields.  Nik commented that it was just like being in India but much cleaner and not as busy.

"Brickfields is a small to medium-sized town and residential neighbourhood located just outside central Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is known as Kuala Lumpur's Little India due to the high percentage of Indian residents and businesses."

We had a nice time searching all the clothes shops and ended up being very successful as you'll see in tomorrow's outfit post!  We also stopped for a snack at one of the busier looking restaurants (what we always look for if we don't have a recommendation or Trip Advisor to guide us!) and enjoyed a tandoori chicken chapatti and mango lassi.

That's not a hair - it's from the edge of the banana leaf!

While we were sat there we spotted a hairdresser across the road.  (Nik had been hoping to get a haircut in KL as he'd run out of time before we left due to working 12 hour day shifts right up until heading to the airport - I actually met him there as he had to get a taxi from the hospital!)  He wasn't convinced but not knowing where else to go we checked it out.

It was certainly an experience and he ended up with a pretty good haircut, once Nik restyled the spikes!  We were given a card of styles to choose from.  We went for number 9 as it was the best length, we'd said 11 as it's the most like Nik's usual style but the barber said that was very short so 9 seemed a safer option.

Not sure about those gelled spikes!

After cutting and styling the hair, he whipped out an old fashioned razor and tidied up all the edges.

Followed by a strange looking contraption, a bit like an iron which he proceeded to rub all over Nik's back and neck.  It was a massager, not an iron!

All this for a bargain £2!

We definitely timed it well as it was empty when we arrived (slightly concerning) but had a queue of 3 men waiting by the time we left.  They were all very friendly, as seems usual for Malaysia, and smiled at us and said hello.  It's such a lovely place to walk around with people like that and interesting places to explore.  The hairdresser was up a flight of stairs which we would never have found had I not spotted the sign from the restaurant.
